The health issues

Adolescence is a window of opportunity for helping young people build a foundation for health and well-being over their lifetime. Many health behaviours, attitudes, and beliefs are established in childhood and adolescence and carried forward into adulthood.

This section explores two key issues that affect young people’s health during adolescence: mental health and risk-taking behaviour. Examples of behaviour that can pose a risk include substance use, tobacco use, unsafe sexual practices, activities with a high risk of injury such as impaired driving, and harmful patterns of sleeping, eating, and screen time.
