Action Now

Now you know more about what affects young people’s resilience, health, and well-being. You know more about how to promote their health. It’s time to take action and make your community a healthier place for young people. This section provides a step-by-step process to help you, and the youth you work with, to make changes in your community—changes that help young people be healthy, happy, and safe.

The steps in this process are:

  1. Take stock.
  2. Prioritize.
  3. Strategize.
  4. Act.
  5. Reflect and evaluate.
  6. Repeat.

At each step, we provide you with tools and activities to help you engage youth in the process.

Keep in mind:  There are no magic bullets or one-size-fits-all solutions for promoting youth health and preventing risk-taking behaviour.  Each community and each group of youth within the community are unique.  Effective solutions are more likely to be found when you work with the youth you want to reach and tap into your local community’s assets and resources. You can also draw on ideas from the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion.
